The UQ astronomy courses we offer, and what is needed to study astrophysics at UQ

The recomended plan for progression in physics can be found at:
http://www.uq.edu.au/study/science/studyplanners//index.html?page=90549
As you can see, for astrophysics, you'll need at minimum:

PHYS2020 Thermodyn & Condensed Matter
PHYS2055 Intro to Fields in Physics
PHYS2041 Quantum Physics
PHYS3900 Perspectives in Physics

plus the astrophysics courses:
PHYS2082 Astrophys. & Space Science II
PHYS3080 Astrophysics III

...and you'll also need the pre-requisites for all those courses (e.g. PHYS1001 and PHYS1002; MATH1051, MATH1052, STAT1201).

Also keep in mind you need 8 units of third year physics for your major of which 2 units must come from PHYS3900 and 4 units (i.e. two courses) must come from the three core third year courses:

PHYS3020 Statistical Mechanics
PHYS3040 Quantum Mechanics
PHYS3051 Fields in Physics.

We'd also recommend second year maths - MATH2000, MATH2100.

Tim McIntyre (tfmcintyre@gmail.com) is the physics contact for planning your courses at UQ who should be able to advise further.
